Daily facial cleansing as a basis of any beauty regime
Daily facial cleansing is key to a radiant complexion. Only when dead skin cells, sweat and make-up residue are thoroughly removed in the evening can your skin regenerate overnight and reveal its natural beauty once more. In the morning, all that's required is a little refreshing in order to prepare your skin for daily care. There are multiple products to choose from when it comes to cleansing the skin:
- Cleansing foam: Apply to your damp face, gently massage in and rinse. Recommended for daily use.
- Cleansing milk: This is also very mild on the skin and usually does not contain alcohol. It's just as simple to apply as the cleansing foam.
- Toner: This refreshes and purifies. A toner is used after cleansing in order to prepare the skin for subsequent care.
- Cleansing soap: This soap comes in solid form and is very easy to use: Moisten your face, stroke the soap over your cheeks or massage it in by hand. Then rinse and enjoy.
- Make-up remover cloths or cleansing wipes: This is the quick option for when you're on the go and for anyone who's in a rush. Simply wipe your face thoroughly with the cloths and remove any make-up residue or build-up.
Thanks to the variety of products, it's so easy to cleanse your face daily. The key is to ensure that the one you choose suits your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, then go for an unscented, alcohol-free facial cleanser so that you don't put your skin under any more stress. If your skin is more robust then you can go for a universal cleanser for any skin type.
Mild facial cleanser for smooth, fresh skin
When it comes to a thorough facial cleanse, there's no avoiding surfactants. Not all build-ups on the skin are the same. Some can be quickly rinsed off with water, while others are more stubborn and can only be removed with the help of oil-in-water emulsions. This is why even mild facial cleansers require a certain amount of surfactants in order to cleanse the skin right down to the pores. However, irritating versions such as SLS are avoided.
Of course, you can also choose a facial cleanser that is purely plant-based. These products combine cleansing extracts with nourishing ingredients and avoid the use of chemicals. This type of facial cleanser is suitable for any skin type and its moisturising ingredients result in a smooth feel. You should, however, make sure that your skin can tolerate essential oils.
Double facial cleansing – yes or no?
When it comes to facial cleansing, the rule of thumb is that less is more. As such, double cleansing is highly controversial. This is where two or even three different cleansing products are applied one after the other and then rinsed off. The benefit of this is that the skin is intensely cleansed.
This method of facial cleansing is better suited to people with robust skin. And even then, the selected products should be well coordinated and as mild as possible. Double cleansing should take place in the evening as most of the build-up on the skin happens during the day.
If your skin errs on the sensitive side, then double cleansing is not a good idea as it will increase the risk of severe irritation. Instead, opt for a single facial cleanser that is gentle to the skin and leaves behind a good feeling. Alcohol and perfume are among the ingredients that can be dispensed with as they only put the skin under more stress.
Cleansing the face – be careful of causing mechanical stress
Wash cloths should be used with care when cleansing the face. When it comes to the thin skin on your face, do not scrub but instead stroke the skin very gently to keep mechanical stress to a minimum. Similarly, face scrubs and cleansers labelled as "keratolytic" should not be used on your skin on a daily basis. For a mild facial cleanser, a foam or milk without additional particles is the best option.
