SENSAI was founded on bringing the Japanese beauty secret of silk to the world. In the early 20th century, Japanese silk manufacturer Kanebo discovered the smoothing qualities of silk on the skin. It was Kanebo's president Sanji Muto that noticed how remarkably soft the hands of the silk workers were, having handled silk fibres throughout the day. After further research, Kanebo found a way to introduce silk molecules into skin care products. In the 1930s, the brand created Savon de Soie Silk Soap with silk oil extracts.
