Serge Lutens perfume: A classic with a back story

Serge Lutens grew up during the Second World War and in 1956 began an apprenticeship in a hairdressing salon in Lille in northern France. Black was already his favourite colour at that time.

In 1962, Serge Lutens went to Paris and presented his large pictures to Vogue. Only three days later, he helped design the Christmas edition. He quickly made his name as a trendsetter with his sombre make-up and original jewellery designs. In 1967, Serge Lutens began to design colours, lines and shapes for luxury brands.

Serge Lutens perfume: Nearly 20 years to launch his own brand

In 1982, Serge Lutens created his first perfume, Nombre Noir. This perfume by Serge Lutens embodied the aesthetic of the 80s with shiny black on matte black. Other fragrances followed, such as Ambre Sultan and Cuir Mauresque.

In 2000, Serge Lutens founded his own brand – with his own style. He received numerous prizes, including several FIFA awards from the Fragrance Foundation, for his uncompromising creations. In 2007, Serge Lutens received the most significant French award: Commandeur dans l'ordre des Arts et des lettres.
